Energy comes from the food and drink we consume in the form of carbohydrate, protein, fat and alcohol.

Many vitamins and minerals are also essential for normal energy production. They assist your body with the release and utilisation of energy found in food. They also contribute to the reduction of tiredness and fatigue.

In order to maintain a healthy body weight, you should ideally only consume as much energy as your body uses. Excess energy causes weight gain because the unused energy is stored as fat.

Physical activity as well as nutritious vegetables, food and drink that meet your energy needs help to achieve and maintain a healthy weight.

Your body needs the right amount of fuel and level of nutrients to remain healthy.
